China on Thursday accused the United States of misrepresenting Beijing’s defence posture in Asia, arguing that such narratives are aimed at complicating relations between China and India at a time when dialogue between the two neighbours has shown signs of improvement. Chinese officials rejected suggestions that easing tensions along the disputed border with India is intended to weaken the growing strategic partnership between Washington and New Delhi.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing approaches its relationship with India from a long-term and strategic perspective. He emphasized that China values stability in its regional relations and remains committed to managing differences through dialogue, rather than allowing external interpretations to shape bilateral dynamics.

Addressing the long-standing boundary dispute between China and India, Lin stressed that the issue is strictly a bilateral matter and should be handled directly by the two countries involved. He added that Beijing objects to third parties passing judgment or inserting themselves into the dispute, warning that external commentary risks adding unnecessary complexity to a sensitive regional issue. The remarks come amid continued efforts by China and India to stabilize ties following years of heightened tensions along their Himalayan border.

While differences remain unresolved, both sides have engaged in diplomatic and military-level talks aimed at preventing escalation and maintaining peace along the frontier, underscoring a shared interest in regional stability. At the same time, the broader geopolitical context continues to shape perceptions in the region, particularly as the United States deepens strategic cooperation with India.

China’s response reflects its concern that global rivalries could spill over into regional relationships, reinforcing Beijing’s position that disputes in Asia should be addressed by the countries directly involved, without external interference.
