U.S. President Donald Trump has reignited debate over the role of vaccines in the fight against Covid-19 by publicly demanding that pharmaceutical companies disclose detailed information on how effective their doses have been. In a message posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated: ā€œMany people think they are a miracle that has saved millions of lives.Ā

Others do not believe it!ā€. With those words, the president not only questioned the official narrative surrounding the pandemic but also fueled a controversy that could further erode public trust in science and in the nation’s health institutions. The situation is complicated by the presence of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s Secretary of Health and a longtime vaccine skeptic. Kennedy has spent years casting doubt on the safety and effectiveness of vaccines, and has frequently spread misinformation.

His appointment to the cabinet was already controversial, and his influence is now causing direct clashes with career health officials. Tensions came to a head last week when Susan MonƔrez, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), was dismissed from her position. According to U.S. media, MonƔrez had strong disagreements with Kennedy over national vaccination policy.

Following her removal, her attorneys claimed she was ā€œtargetedā€ for refusing to endorse ā€œunscientific and reckless guidelinesā€ advanced by the Secretary of Health. Trump himself acknowledged that there is ā€œa lot of divisionā€ within the CDC on the vaccine issue, adding: ā€œNow that the CDC is so divided on this topic, I want the answer, and I want it now.ā€

The president noted that he had previously received positive reports on the effectiveness of vaccines from pharmaceutical companies, but insisted that this data must now be made public. Critics argue, however, that the demand reflects the growing politicization of public health policy within the Trump administration, where skepticism toward science and confrontations with regulatory agencies are increasingly shaping the agenda.

The president’s call comes at a time when the American public remains deeply divided over the role of vaccines in combating the pandemic. While a significant portion of society views them as life-saving tools that prevented millions of deaths, another segment — emboldened by conspiracy theories and influential figures like Kennedy — continues to distrust them.

Public health experts warn that this latest controversy could further undermine citizens’ confidence in institutions, at a moment when reliable information is as essential as maintaining social stability.
