The fire in the famous Grand Canyon National Park was recently, at least partially, under control. Now, the flames have reignited. This has consequences for tourists: part of the park is now closed.

The North Rim of the park in the United States will remain closed for the rest of the 2025 season, according to an announcement on the park’s official website. Images show thick clouds of smoke rising over the deep canyons. According to U.S. media, the flames from the “Bravo Dragon Fire” are threatening, among other things, a historic lodge that has stood for 99 years.

Firefighters are working around the Kaibab Lodge, where visitors typically stop to eat or stay overnight, according to the Arizona state website. Fire Continues to Spread Drought, strong winds, and rugged terrain have made firefighting efforts extremely difficult. The blaze is showing “extreme fire behavior” and has now spread to an area of more than 220 square kilometers. By the end of last week, the affected area was only about half that size, according to reports.

Extreme Heat Warning The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for the region. Temperatures between 38 and 45 degrees Celsius (100–113°F) are expected through Wednesday, meteorologists said in a statement. Authorities believe the fire was sparked by lightning on July 4th — Independence Day. Around 1,000 firefighters have been battling the flames.

So far, containment is only at 13 percent. Grand Canyon Lodge Already Destroyed The fire already destroyed the historic Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Rim in mid-July. A total of 70 structures in the area have been damaged or destroyed, according to park officials. Each year, millions of people visit Grand Canyon National Park — most of them to the more popular South Rim, which initially remained open.
