It is impossible to ignore the enormous contradiction between the wealth accumulated by Hamas leaders and the extreme poverty in which the population of Gaza lives. This political and military elite is estimated to control fortunes worth billions of dollars, while Palestinian families survive on hunger, unemployment, and the ruins left after years of conflict.

This is not a movement sacrificing for the freedom of its people, but leaders who have turned the suffering of others into a source of economic and political power. Much of this wealth comes from diverted international donations, illegal taxes imposed on the population, and shady businesses abroad, amounting to a clear case of illicit enrichment.

What is most outrageous is that this money, which could relieve Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, instead ends up in mansions, luxury lifestyles, and private accounts. Hamas, which presents itself as the defender of Palestine, should be held accountable not only for war crimes but also for corruption and the plundering of resources that belong to the people it claims to represent.

Just like Israel, these leaders should also be tried in an International Criminal Court, because justice cannot be selective or biased when it comes to crimes against humanity and large-scale corruption.
