Signs are increasingly pointing to the fact that David Alaba no longer has a sporting future at Real Madrid. Now, Spanish media are reporting growing frustration within the capital regarding the current situation. Apparently, there have been no inquiries or offers for the Austrian defender or another player on the club's potential sale list.
Contract termination does not seem to be an option either. New coach Xabi Alonso has significantly reshaped Real Madrid’s defense and is looking to make room in the squad. Two defenders are expected to leave the club at all costs.
Surprisingly, Alonso has chosen his former Bayern teammate Alaba, along with Ferland Mendy, as the ones to go. However, the situation has proven to be more complicated than expected in Madrid—mainly because neither player is in a hurry to leave. According to “Managing Madrid,” the situation with Alaba in particular is at a standstill. Reportedly, there are no offers—not even loose inquiries—for the Austrian international.
His repeated statements that he wishes to fight for his place at Real Madrid after his long injury spell might also be discouraging potential suitors. His contract runs until 2026. Is a Bitter Breakup Looming? Apparently, Real Madrid officials have even explored the possibility of buying out Alaba’s contract.
Yet, the 33-year-old has shown no interest in such a move. Contract termination is not up for discussion from his side. Could this lead to a bitter ending, similar to what FC Barcelona experienced with Marc-André ter Stegen? Although frustration within the Madrid camp is growing, there are currently no signs of a dramatic fallout. Alaba still enjoys strong respect within the club and among fans, thanks to his past performances and successes.
