The next round of talks aimed at finding a way to end the war in Ukraine has been postponed until Wednesday and Thursday, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The trilateral meetings between Kyiv, Moscow, and Washington are now scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi, after initially being planned for the weekend. Zelensky said Ukraine will approach the discussions ready for a “substantive dialogue,” while acknowledging that a breakthrough is not yet in sight.

He stressed that the goal remains a “real and dignified” end to the conflict, grounded in Ukraine’s core principles of sovereignty. The negotiations are unfolding within a sensitive framework. In previous meetings, Russian and Ukrainian representatives held closed-door talks with U.S. mediation. This time, the format was expected to involve more direct engagement between the two sides, with a reduced role for Washington.

Despite negotiators describing earlier exchanges as constructive, the key differences remain unresolved. Territorial issues continue to represent the main obstacle, with Moscow demanding that Ukraine withdraw from parts of the Donbas still under Kyiv’s control—conditions that Zelensky has repeatedly rejected. At the same time, regional security concerns persist.

In Poland, authorities reported new incidents along the border with Belarus, where airborne objects crossed into Polish airspace overnight from Saturday to Sunday. Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command said the objects appeared to be balloon-like and were detected and monitored by radar systems belonging to European Union and NATO member states. Border guards suggested the objects may be linked to smuggling activities involving illegal goods such as cigarettes.

However, the Polish military did not rule out the possibility that the incidents were intended to test the responsiveness of the country’s air defense systems. Similar events had already been recorded earlier in the week, drawing increased attention to border security. Poland has strengthened its eastern frontier in recent years with a barrier equipped with advanced surveillance technology.

Belarus, a close ally of Russia, remains a key factor in the broader context of the war that began in 2022, keeping Eastern Europe in a state of heightened political and strategic sensitivity.
