China has taken a new step in its technological strategy by prohibiting some of its leading companies from using Nvidia chips in certain processes, a move that further intensifies trade and tech tensions with the United States. The Cyberspace Administration of China ordered giants such as ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent to stop using RTX Pro 6000D graphics processors, arguing that these products—designed for artificial intelligence and advanced rendering tasks—increase reliance on foreign suppliers in a sector considered strategic for the nation’s future.

According to sources cited by the Financial Times, the measure also includes limitations on the use of Nvidia’s H20 chip, which had already been restricted in previous months. These provisions directly affect artificial intelligence development projects, data analysis, and video platforms in which Chinese companies were conducting tests with this type of specialized hardware.

As an immediate consequence, some corporations have been forced to reconsider their technological investment plans, turning to domestic manufacturers to fill the gap, while the government insists that the goal is to accelerate self-sufficiency and reduce vulnerability to U.S. sanctions. The decision also had an impact on financial markets, with Nvidia’s stock value dropping, as the company has become a global leader in high-performance chips in recent years.

Analysts believe this ban is part of a broader strategic competition in which both Washington and Beijing seek to secure control over technological supply chains and innovation capacity in fields such as artificial intelligence, supercomputing, and telecommunications. For China, the priority is to strengthen its domestic semiconductor industry, while for the United States the goal is to preserve the competitive advantage of its companies against Asia’s growing influence.

With this latest measure, it is evident that the so-called “tech war” between the two powers continues to escalate, bringing consequences that transcend borders and reverberate across the global economy.
